“This is real love--not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”
1 John 4:10

Not that we loved God, but He loved us!

I remember thinking that I should concentrate on loving God.  Trying to do “my best” to love Him and please Him.  What I didn’t realize is that before I could ever “please Him”, He loved me and sent His Son to take my place, to fulfill God’s requirement for justice against my sin.  He was the atoning sacrifice and satisfying offering for me, 2000 years ago!

Praying for hours, fasting, saying over and over that I love Him, going to church, reading the Bible every day, none of this will earn God’s love for me. There is nothing I can do to earn His love and acceptance.  Jesus did it all and when God looks at me, He sees Jesus.

“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins.” (Eph 1:7)  The Word tells me over and over that it’s a finished work.  My freedom has already been purchased! So, today I no longer try to please Him, because I know I do.  I know I’m loved and perfect in His sight through Jesus, and that pleases Him!

Praise Jesus!

Many Blessings,
Lori Rola
