Are there levels of righteousness? Some people are very, very righteous and get to sit in the reserved seats in the front row. Some in the first couple rows because they are also quit righteous. Now, the commoner. Righteous, yes, but certainly not like the ones up front.

Praying, reading the Word every day, going to church every Sunday, no matter what! Fasting periodically, and always praying before you eat. Tithing, and even going beyond that. Being nice to others. Never swearing. Exercising self-control. Do these works make a person more righteous in God’s eyes? Can we earn our favors from the Lord by doing the above? Does He notice us more if we do them?

“But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,” Romans 4:5 The living, powerful Word of God says that works will not help! Want more proof? “For Christ is the end of the law (works) for righteousness to everyone that believes.” Romans 10:4 More? “For you are all children of God through faith (not works) in Christ Jesus.” Gal 3:26 My favorite, 2 Cor 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

We are right with God through Jesus! Nothing that we do can get us more righteous or closer to God. It’s right being, not right doing. Jesus did it all.

The devil will come and remind you of your temper or something that you just did. He will make you question your integrity “How can you call yourself righteous when you just did that!” Ignore him! Speak the truth, “I am righteous with God’s righteousness through Jesus and what He did on the cross!” “I am not righteous because of what I have done or not done!”

Rest in the finished works of Jesus. Believe that you are righteous through Jesus and nothing, nothing, nothing that you do can make you more righteous.

Many blessings,
Lori Rola
