One of the first Bible verses that I learned as a young girl was Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Makes you feel like hiding. The feeling of condemnation comes. If you asked me what the verse before it or after it said, I wouldn't have been able to tell you.

So, just how important are the verses before and after?

Romans 3:22 “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.”

WOW! The verse before - the living, powerful Word - is telling us that we are made right through Jesus!!

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.” (Rom 3:23) So, this verse is just explaining verse 22. We needed a savior, because we have, all of us, sinned - YET -

Romans 3:24 “YET God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” AMEN!!! We are righteous with God’s righteousness through Jesus! He took our penalty! We have grace, His unearned, undeserved, unmerited favour!

I wish I would have memorized verses 22 through 24, it makes for a much clearer, beautiful picture and I certainly don’t feel the need to hide! There is no condemnation towards us when you get the whole picture. Just verse 23, you're left feeling bad and sin conscious.

Lesson learned! Don’t take scripture out of context and when it comes to who we are, we live in the New Covenant! We are righteous and redeemed! God put all of our sin on His Son Jesus! When He looks at us now, He see’s us righteous through Jesus! He does NOT see sin! There is also, NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1)!

Blessings righteous one,
Lori Rola
