“Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me. Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with]oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, And I shall dwell forever [throughout all my days] in the house and in the presence of the Lord.”
Psalms 23:4-6

Living on earth, we will go through “things”. The sunless valley of the shadow of death doesn't sound like a good place to be at all! Sunless, so it’s dark and cold. A valley, “a depression or hollow, an elongated (unusually long) lowland between ranges of mountains”. When you're in a valley what do you see? The mountains-problems! You look up and see them, you look forward and see them! Shadow of death, sounds scary! Are you in a dark, cold place in your life? No matter where you look, you see the mountains and the long narrow path? Shadow? In order for there to be one, there also must be a light. And that light is Jesus, the light of the world! SO, do NOT fear because God is not just with us, but IN us (Eph 1:19). He is protecting us with his rod, and I wouldn’t want to get in the way of his rod. A shepherd's rod stood as a symbol of his strength, his power, his authority in any serious situation. His staff guides us. The staff of a shepherd is a symbol of the concern, the compassion that a shepherd has for his sheep. Wow! And we have Jesus as our shepherd!

I like this, He prepares a table for me in the presence of my enemies. Reminds me of Luke 10:19 “Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you.”

I am anointed and refreshed and my cup overflows. I’ll take an overflowing cup of God’s blessings! It gets better. Goodness, mercy and UNFAILING LOVE FOLLOW me ALL my days!! Wrap your mind around that! That is powerful!

If you're going through “things”, no matter how bad they are, know that Jesus is everything! You are not alone! The mountains and the narrow road might be all you see and death all you feel but remember Romans 8:6, sense and reason without the Holy Spirit is death, but to be spiritually minded brings life and peace. Meditate and say the 23rd Psalm out loud. Claim it! Everything in it is yours!

Enjoy victory,
