Waiting for His Call…

Proverbs 3:1-6 NLT
“My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

Seasons. Callings. Purpose. It seems as if everyone around me is struggling with these concepts. We, as Christ followers, have a tendency to become preoccupied with our callings and often times we may become frustrated when things don't line up the way we had hoped; when we feel as if we aren't being used or obeying our calling to the fullest. It can cause us to become worried or fearful that we aren't doing something right or that we aren't yet good enough to be used. We find ourselves starting to doubt and question our purpose or if we have one at all. When will this season be over? When will I know what my calling is? When will I be able to start living out my calling?

These questions, while they can cause us to become entangled in worry, are somewhat positive in that they can show us that our hearts are in the right place; that we want to be used by our Creator. That’s the first step to uncovering the mystery of our purpose. Willingness.

For the moments when you feel like you are not living up to a calling or purpose, remember that God works in every season and in every circumstance of our lives if we let Him. Never underestimate the ways that God can use you right where you're at. I refuse to believe that we are ever called just to a specific position but believe that our lives ARE the position. When we can operate from that mindset, it opens us up to be used by God wherever we are and in whatever we do. We need to refrain from limiting God to only being able to work in specifications and allow Him to move freely and wildly in our lives. God isn’t restricted in His ability to use you. It doesn’t take having a specific job title or volunteer role. It doesn’t require an exact salary or environment. Our Creator is omnipotent and glorious; He has the power to use us as He pleases. All it takes is willingness, trust and obedience.

So today, look for the small opportunities God presents throughout the day to share His love, to show kindness, or to be used by Him in any capacity. In doing those small things, He will be training you up for the BIG thing He wants you to do. And who knows, maybe you’ll look back and realize that those small things that didn’t seem all that significant, turned out to be the big way that He was using you.

Remember that He loves you dearly, and He has great things planned for you; not just for your future but for where you are NOW. You are chosen. And you don't have to wait for Him to use you.

“I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” Psalm 57:2I
