Sound SleepTuesday, April 4, 2017
Many of the disciples were fisherman by trade and knew all about boating, and storm clouds. This was also the sea, not just a lake or river. For them to wake Jesus and say "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?", (Mark 4:38) that must have been a very bad storm! They thought this storm was going to be the end of them!
I've been out on our boat with my husband when the wind started tossing it big time and I can tell you one thing for sure, there is no way I could sleep through it! That was river wind and rain, not a storm on the sea!
No comfy mattress, blankets and memory foam pillow. No roof to keep the rain out. “But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.” (Mark 4:37) It sounds like Jesus was probably getting wet, but he was still sleeping!
“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." (Mark 4:35) He knew that the other side was their destiny and no storm was going to stop that from happening. He knew who he was and the authority and power that he had.
We have that authority and power also! We are in Him! “We are engineered by his design, he molded and manufactured us in Christ. We are his workmanship, his poetry. We are fully fit to do good, equipped to give attractive evidence of his likeness in us in everything we do.” Ephesians 2:10 (Mirror Bible) So when you find yourself not sleeping, remember who you are and know that sound sleep is yours also!
Sweet dreams tonight! “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”
